Red vs. Blue: Zero
Date: 2020
Roles: Animation, Compositing, Motion Graphics, VFX, Lighting
In Red vs. Blue: Zero, a mysterious syndicate leader known only as Zero seeks an Ultimate Power, and a ragtag team of heroes and misfits called SHATTER SQUAD must work together to save the galaxy.
On this particular project, we opted to stray away from traditional in-engine Halo machinima, and shoot for 100 percent animation across the entire series. There are a few scenes here and there where I was tasked to "fauxchinimate" characters using Maya, moving them as if they were being puppeted a-la classic Red vs. Blue. Everything was exported out of Maya and brought into Unreal, applying motions to a previously set up skeletal mesh.
Other duties included a large amount of lighting and visual effects, with some various motion graphics applied in small portions of scenes. We leveraged niagara systems to get the exact effects we wanted, with the freedom of using specific effects never seen before in the Halo series (example: Zero's sword and teleport effects).
